Very impressive. It has lots of high-quality charted designs. I have not knitted them yet, but see no issues with the patterns. I suspect what most people will buy this for are the color-work diagrams, which are clearly presented. I usually buy pattern books and think I might just knit one or two items, if I'm lucky. With this I could see myself knitting several of these patterns, AND using the color-work designs in other projects. I also like that they include templates at the end to help you create your own designs. I really feel I've gotten my money's worth!

This is a wonderful book. It has a great section at the beginning on knitting mittens. Then there are the wonderful mitten patterns. Then at the end, there is a section about designing your own mittens. I highly recommend this book, whether you are an experienced mitten knitter or just starting out.

I haven't knit any of the patterns yet (I just received the book last week), but I love the patterns included and know friends and family will enjoy receiving these knitted mittens as gifts! Most of the designs are animal-inspired and are definitely not the standard geometric repeating designs that many Scandinavian books offer, so if you're looking for an uber-traditional book of patterns this probably isn't the book for you. For me, though, I really appreciate these designs, and based on the number of requests I've already gotten from friends and family, these patterns will be a hit for any recipient.I'll update this review once I've knit a few of the designs and can weigh in on errata, clarity of patterns, etc.

The book says "Big Book of Mittens" but what it doesn't describe are the great animal motifs. I got it for the poodle mittens but there is also a "dog" mitten with a Boston Terrier. I have friends with both breeds.Fisherman mittens have fishbones and fish. An owl--that one, I have to knit right after the poodle.Zebras, elephants, horses, cats, rabbits, mice, giraffe, reindeer. An adorable black-and-white cow with a pink nose and ears --for kids. The entire zoo is here. As well as some traditional geometric, folkloric designs. Even a rock guitar.

I have purchased her patterns off Ravelry and was very happy that she made this book. I made the cat mittens and the pattern was easy and fun. I love her designs!!!

Beautiful book with lots of charts and advice for knitting colorwork mittens. Each mitten had its own little story about the pattern and what it meant. I am already planning which mittens to knit first.

Well written with beautiful charted designs. There is a lot of very useful info on gauge/size changes. However, if you are a newbie knitter or haven't done colorwork before or are a "blind follower" (to quote Elizabeth Zimmerman) tread lightly. This may not be the book for you.Still reading this review and a newbie? Make a tubular swatch using just the hand portion of one of the patterns (no thumb) before you jump into a pair of gloves. The swatch can become a small bag or a mug cozy and by the time you are done with it you will know a LOT about what it takes to get wearable mittens from YOUR yarn. Go for it!

When first looked through the book I thought that I was never going to be able to knit such intricate designs. I was sure it would end in frustration. Turns out that the hardest part was picking which pair of mittens to knit first. The patterns are very clearly written and the charts are printed large and easy to read. I like that it ends with a blank chart so I can design my own mittens. One day I will, but for now there are so many more designs already in the book that I want to make.

I teach third grade and my students LOVE the Who Was series books. I bought them Harry Houdini because he was a person from history that they weren't as familiar with. The kids really enjoyed learning about him and I had a few students choose him for their biography project.

I bought these for my third grade classroom. They are great for the biography genre and then to use for report writing. The three years I've used them so far the kids LOVED them. Easy for their reading levels, informative, and people they have heard of in their lives. They would read their own and then read other that they had heard of. Could have left these books out 1/2 year and they would have still been reading them.

My son loved reading this book

My 9 year old son is hard to buy books for, but when I found this, it caught my eye. He loves magic, so I bought it, hoping he'd like it. He did! It was a good length for him and kept his attention.I recommend this book for kids this age who like biographies or want to learn about magic or magicians.

Tarragon Turkey MedallionsA Recipe from American Heart Association Low Salt Cookbook, 3rd Edition Preparation of this entrée is very fast paced, so have your side dishes ready before you begin cooking it. Mixed salad greens topped with Cider Vinaigrette and Rice and Vegetable Pilaf make good accompaniments.Ingredients:• 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice • 2 tablespoons water• 1-1/2 teaspoons fresh tarragon leaves or 1⁄2 teaspoon dried, crumbled• 1 medium garlic clove, minced• 1/4 teaspoon salt• 1/8 teaspoon pepper• 1-pound turkey tenderloin, all visible fat discarded• Vegetable oil spray• 2 teaspoons olive oilServes 4(3 ounces turkey per serving)To Prepare:In a small bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients. Set aside.Cut the turkey crosswise into 1/4-inch slices.Lightly spray a large nonstick skillet with vegetable oil spray. Heat over high heat. Add the oil and swirl to coat the bottom. My mother was recently hospitalized with heart failure, and is now limited to 2000mg/day of sodium. Having eschewed processed foods many years ago - I rarely buy can, box, or bag - I was absolutely stunned by the amount of sodium in nearly everything at the grocery as I was grasping for meal ideas for her (and her traditional Southern salt/pepper taste buds.) I've now made numerous items from this cookbook for her, and she has loved every dish. Try the pork loin with apple dressing, it's worthy for Sunday company. The meat loaf is also incredible.Additional tips: Invest in many, varied spices and fresh herbs, a good balsamic vinegar, and keep a bowl of fresh lemons on the table. There IS life after salt!

We spent over $70 just ordering low-salt cookbooks for my mother's Christmas gift as she was recently put on a restricted salt diet.. Out of the three we ordered, only one was "fairly" good. In the mean time, she ordered this one for herself and shared it with our family. I was stunned !! the recipes are all ingredients we have on hand or are easily accessible at "any" grocery store, as well as cheap to purchase. The recipes are not over the top time consuming and gourmet, making it easy for almost any level of cooking experience easy to do and for those whom are busy.. I got this so I could provide proper food for my Mom after she had a heart attack. I was skeptical at first that there would be anything worth making or that it would taste good. I was wrong on both accounts. We have made a few different things from it so far and all have been very good. Some have even become a new family favorite. Was a very helpful book to have.

She stopped for a month to teach school along the way and took public transportation a couple of times. She writes poignantly and frankly of the dilemmas caused by First World low-budget travelers in Third World countries. Should they pay more than locals, what hospitality and privileges should they expect, and what should their impact be on the people they encounter? She confesses to occasional bad behavior, exasperation, and a lack of sensitivity. With all my galavanting around the world when I was younger and even lately (I'm nearly 70), I never quite took on the challenge Erika took on--to bicycle from Russia through Mongolia and China and Vietnam. After reading "Where the Pavement Ends", I ached with yearning to do something similar. This isn't just a bike story. It's a story of a young woman recognizing which of her motivations are wise and which foolish; learning to let go of original goals inorder to respond to the unanticipated opportunity. I watched her grow and change, and touch the lives of all sorts of people along her constantly-changing path, and thought, "Now if more people could be like this--whether by bike or otherwise--wouldn't mutual understanding an peace have a better chance?

This book had sections that were very original and insightful but others were tedious and repetitive. I ended up skimming sections where the same descriptions of different places started, they should have been eliminated by the editor. One of the most annoying was the obsession with whether or not she was getting ripped off or the maybe it was her condemning of people who thought they were always getting ripped of. I couldn't really tell, she says at one point that she thought she was above it and it was irrelevant then spent way too much time in many sections talking about it.The sample sent from Amazon was brilliant writing so I now she is good but I think it got to the point of filling up pages after awhile hence the three star rating.

Read a copy of the book from the library about a decade ago and I could not stop thinking about this story. Had to have a copy of my own.

After visiting Mongolia, I was interested in her interpretation of the culture - especially the generosity of the people. The book does not disappoint. Her encounters in Vietnam were eye opening. Such courage endurance, and determination!

Wow, this was interesting. Who would ever decide to bicycle through Mongolia, let alone a single woman. Absolutely fascinating, this one is a keeper.

I had to continuously admire the author and her courage to take this ride on all alone. One really felt you were there and experiencing the author's ups and downs as she rode through Mongolia, China and Vietnam alone. Definitely a good read.

A wonderful adventure. I enjoyed every page.

I never saw that coming my big homie giving his life so that the others can live and get away My Antwan dying broke my heart. Slim is truly an amazing man. Why did Jamel get greedy he could have asked me and I would have told him the big Mexican wasn't dead. Glad to see Chaco, Valdez, and Champagne got what they deserved only wished that they castrated Chaco before he met his demise. Please publish a book and let us know how little Chavez and his mother make out. I could go on and on. Once again thank you for the extended family it was truly a ride. To all of my fallen family RIP. Kudos you are a gifted and talented man. You have the ability to pen 26 books and had all of your fans begging for more. I will say this again people if you have not read these books you are truly missing out these books have connected people all around the world we have a chat group where we discuss each book One of Alex Angel's forever can't wait for the next ride. Chavez was a fitting ending for the Corner Boys series. It speaks to the love and Loyalty the team had for each other along with love and respect for Slim, their leader. Chavez was committed to saving his niece at all cost and lost his life to save her and Slim. The was a ruthless man toward his enemies but a man of love to his friends. He left a loving impression and child with his new love, Dahteste.I hated that Antawn was killed but all of Slim's friends couldn't live.Jamal turned out not to be the man Slim thought he was and died for his deceit.Mari was so tuned into her man that she never belied he was dead. She used the connections and skills she learned from Slim to bring him home and cost wasn't a factor. The ending was excellent with Slim checking and taking out all of his enemies from afar.

Chevez is a legend on a mission an oh boy what a mission.... He hooked up with the old Corner crew to take care of business...... Hated to see a couple of favorite characters die but another favorite resurrected. Begging for more this series.. It could go in forever and I'd keep reading.... Bravo Alex Richardson!!!!

This was a 5 star rating because after 26 books in the series it remains exciting and unpredictable. After reading all of the books in the series, I am now ready to see the movie.The characters were so descriptive that you soon forget that this is fiction and you become a part of the crew. Those of us who follow the author would impatiently sit on the edge of our seats waiting for the release of the next book. I was disappointed that two of the crew members never lived to see their happy ever after. But the ending gives me hope that there might be a new generation lying in the cut ready to do their own thing. Thank you Alex Richardson for taking us on this ride!. It's been awesome.

Alright Alex job well done although I saw some shortcuts when u left chapter 11 n started 12 I was at a loss for words why did u rush thru without giving us the details I felt cheated i really wished u could've slowed it down at times I wasn't feeling like u wrote this too many details was left out the Jamal knowing threw me just somethings left unsaid. But all in all I loved catching up with my favorite family of thugs n da women that love em..Keep doing ya thing n imma keep ridin witchu.. looking forward to that new book btw Kuddos to you sir..

I totally enjoyed the book. I have all of The Corner series and have enjoyed all. Got to know the characters as if I really knew them in life. I like the style of the writer. It flows smoothly. I didn't like that Chavez died but that's life. I am sure his son will pop up when he is born and that will be another story. At least I hope so. I would recommend this series to everybody. It is worth the money. I have went back and read the series again while I wait on the next one and it is just as good the second time.

Omg......this was so good. I'm still not ready for this series to end because there are more stories to tell. Chavez is a beast and will do whatever for the people he cares about the most. There were a lot of losses in this book but many surprises as well. True friendships never day and family is everything. I would love to see another story but I know all good things must come to an end. The Corner will always be my favorite set of novels and I really enjoyed the ride.....thanks so much Alex Richardson!!!

I have been with this series since the beginning it's been one hell of a ride I loved every word and page. The death of the 2 in this book got me to tears. I purchased a new book but the CD didn't match the questions in the book and it was new and unopened. I couldn't register my book because it wasn't on the list of books that could be registered. So I couldn't study the listening part of the test. Before anyone asks, I do speak and understand English. I was born and raised in America. For someone who doesn't speak English very well this book is a waste of time. I'm not sure if mine was defective or if this is typical.

Genuine book, I was able to register it on the Kaplan website. The CD also works.

About the Author

Radu R. Florescu was born in Bucharest, Romania and is an indirect descendant of Prince Dracula. He received both BA and MA degrees from Christ Church, Oxford University and a PhD from Indiana University. He is professor emeritus of history at Boston College and is author of The Struggle Against Russia in the Romanian Principalities and co-author of a half dozen books on the story of Vlad Tepes, the historical Dracula. With almost a dozen books to his name, his academic work has been the subject of documentaries by The History Channel, Discovery, Canadian Broadcasting, and other international networks.Matei Cazacu received his BA and MA from the University of Bucharest and his PhD from the Sorbonne in Paris. He served as a senior researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Paris. Professor Cazacu is the author of a few dozen books including Dracula (Tallandier, Paris, 2004), Gilles de Rais, or Blue Beard, (Tallandier, Paris, 2005), and Frankenstein (with Professor Florescu, Tallandier, 2011). A medievalist, Professor Cazacu lectures throughout Europe and has appeared in documentaries on The History Channel and Romanian television.
