I'm relearning my math from years of not using it and this Pre-calculus Demystified, Second Edition Paperback – February 13, 2012 is a good study for those who have not looked at a Calculus text for years. As the definition states: Simple enough for a beginner but challenging enough for an advanced student and should really help you better understand the Calculus learning curve that most students don't pickup well the first time attempting to study pre-calculus materials. It will walk you through the study with step-by-step solution to mastering pre-calculus when most find the understanding of pre-calculus to be a challenge and does allow you the chance to learn even more advanced math and physics basics. I find this book easy to understand, where I was sometimes a little more than confused and discouraged. I like it.
I'm using this to study for the clep. It's easy to follow and has a lot of examples I also bought the for dummies pre calculus and I like this much better Because it is more thorough. I have no background knowledge of pre calculus.UPDATE 9/11/2016: I have since taken the CLEP exam and passed! This is the best resource I had while studying. Other great references I used were themathpage.com, khan academy, profrobbob and PatrickJMT youtube videos. I also bought the CLEP precalculus book, which was good for the practice tests and some additional info. My highest math course was college algebra. The CLEP exam is a lot to study for if you are like me and had no knowledge of trig or precalculus level algebra. I'm currently taking calculus, and I refer back to this book often to refresh my memory.
I am a non-traditional premed student, and I have not taken a math class since High School, nine years ago. I was struggling the first couple weeks of class before I realised that I needed extra help. I purchased this book based on previous reviews; I am glad I did. The chapters are written nearly in sync with the flow of my class and the authors explain the concepts and definitions better than my professor and class textbook. I have disregarded my textbook and resorted to Demystified for all explanations and help. My midterm grade was an 'A', and I have no doubts that with hard work and the use of this book that I will ace this class. I highly recommended the Demystified Precalc book for anyone who needs clarification or extra help.
62 year old on the last rings of my life - want to keep the brain functioning - liked math in high school, so i'm just doing problems each night before bed - wish i had this series in school - programmed with answers following, so you get immediate feedback on what you've done - makes learning fun and keeps me alive in the brain and in my head and in my mind - so far the whole math series is great
I wished I would have gotten this book last year during the fall semester 2014 I would have passed and not gotten an F, I could not pass any test during the fall semester no matter how hard I study I could not remember. Even though I order this book 21 days before Spring 2015 finals, and 13 days after the last test before the final (which I had failed with a 52). This book had help me such a great deal. That I did pass the final, and I pass the class with a C. Had I purchased this but during the semester, I would have had pass this class with an "A". The college give ever everyone a study package exam for the final, I used this to study along with my package exam, even those who were high up in the class did not understand the study package for the final, when I start explaining at least 50 question of the finals, pulled out my note book, and showing the step by step how to do each question, some comments were., "You are going to do very well on this final."Word to the wise, if your college give you a study package for the final, study that package, go on youtube, get many idiot, dummy books. 90% of those question from the package is on the final.This is a must have book if you have never had college algebra/algebra in high school.
I am in my 30s and recently went back to school to earn a BSc in computer science. The programming is easy, but as someone who has not used math in a classroom setting for over a decade, I needed help before I tackled the required calculus courses. This book has helped me get back up to speed. The author is clear and presents ideas as simply as possible, without being condescending or dumbing it down too much. There are plenty of practice problems. It is quite thorough. I can't really fault it in any way. If you're willing to put in the effort, you can master the material presented in this book.
If you are starting to learn Precalculus, this is the book to start with. Each step in the book will baby step you into learning broken down topics into Precalculus. This learning material does not throw in hundreds of questions after teaching you the material; however, it will teach you the material, give you an example and break down the steps to get to the answer, and then it will give you a moderate amount of problems that you need to master the topic. I ended up finishing up the book and reviewing it one more time before taking the class and I ended up getting a high A. I highly recommend Pre-calculus Demystified among any other textbooks.
Quite excellent. I had just obtained a 96 in my college Precalculus class before reading this book, and I still learned a great deal more than my university had covered.The topics are well explained with respect to College Algebra level knowledge. If your foundation is shaky you will find yourself having to do quite minimal additional study from free resources online to fully grasp the material. Once you DO grasp the explanations, on the other hand, this book is absolutely magnificent. It is thorough, well structured, and provides an appropriate amount of review problems for each topic covered. I thoroughly recommend you give this book a try, regardless of whether or not you intend on taking a Precalculus class at your university. You will breeze through to an easy A if you do, and otherwise you will find yourself in a good position to ace a placement test and skip over Precalculus.
