I purchased this book in the hope that it would provide a good guide in a small package for an upcoming trip to the area. I did not want to carry around three separate guide books or have to invest in a Kindle (and have big brother monitoring what I read and when and where). I was not disappointed.The coverage is more than adequate for the average first time visitor to these areas and is smaller than the average guide book for any of the countries. My trip is only for a couple weeks and I will be traveling by train from Frankfurt to the other cities and back for my flight home. This book is the perfect companion guide for such a trip.The book includes very good current coverage with regard to trains, money, telephones, tipping, toilets, and other practical concerns when traveling in the three countries, with these topics covered separately for each city.The only weakness of the book is with the maps. This is easily corrected by buying the individual city maps and still results in a compact and lightweight package for travel.

It is poetically and elaborately written. Although wel ove poetry, we mainly ordered this for basic information. I am reminded of the kid who upon finishing his book said, " I learned more about penguins than I wanted to know."

Best choice if you are visiting these three great cities. Actually we planned our trip based on their recommendations, it was a self guided trip using railroad between them, got hotels close to main RR stations. Great experience.

Good basic guide for Europe...where I will be visiting Istanbul, Budapest, Prague and Vienna...nice to have to carry only one guide book

This is not useful. Dated information, no real pictures and cookie cutter formatting.

Exactly the cities on our trip. I think the tour guides used it as well. Almost the same words they used. Maps were helpful - size fit in regular tote bag or purse.Be sure to check the currency for each city - each is different.

The nineteenth century, having rediscovered Shakespeare, turning him into "The Bard," Bradley did manage to enlighten his readers and set the stage (ahem) for some of the more modern analysis e.g. T.S. Eliot. Although it is more a matter of style than content this volume does indicate why much of the poorer analysis borders on hagiography.It is such a lofty perch upon which Bradley places Shakespeare, that unfortunately many of the great and lesser than great Elizabethan dramatists Lyly, Kyd etc. have been lost in the hub bub. Yes there is much more to that period but Bradley's work does show why our contemporary position on that era is so parochial. When was the last time you saw a production of Ben Jonson's "Volpone," or that knee slapper "Friar Bacon and Friar Bungay" by Robert Greene and as for Marlowe, well...

I've always been a Shakespearean wanting to know so much more into hamlet and Macbeth but i never could find anything on them ever until i picked up this book all together tragedy lectures on all the famous plays from hamlet to Othello to Macbeth it's great to get this book before going to college when the teacher decides to do a lecture on Macbeth your a head of the game! The author writes it out so simple that i thought they were actually reading the plays to me in my language instead of the language of old!

What can I say? After 40+ years as an English professor, I found this as an old friend dating from my graduate school days. Reminded me of my Shakespeare professor/dissertation advisor. Lots of analysis goes out of style; Bradley's work never does.

No matter how many times you read any of the works of Shakespeare, there is always something left to discover, wheels within wheels, etc. Mr Bradley opens up the Tragedies of Shakespeare and gives new meanings to Shakespeare scholars, and any others who want to get more and more from the "Bard" and don't we all. It's what civilization is all about.

I am really glad I got this book! I am a theater major and have had to take many Shakespeare courses. This last one we studied Macbeth, Othello, and King Lear. I was so glad to read this book and get some great insights that I could use in class discussion and allowed me to look at the plays I'd read so many times in a new light. If you are a fan of Shakespeare and familiar with this shows, I highly suggest reading this! It was very interesting!

Dr B was an attentive, very knowledgeable and thoughtful reader. This will enrich your experience of Shakespeare. As the bard himself used to say: "buy it - you won't be dissapointed!" Or was that someone else?

A.C. Bradley wrote these lectures in 1904, and the book has gone through at least 26 printings. It is significant that the Folger Shakespeare Library has republished these lectures. They are hugely important and vibrantly written. I am sure my father read these in college, and I know my son did, too. I'm glad I finally got around to them! You will be, also, for all the reasons that other reviewers have noted.
