Overall good, but not special anymore when compared to other travel books. Travel around Croatia is difficult using public transport- could have used more detailed info on overnight ferries, and ferries in general including personal hints, rather than just where to find them. We lived in Europe 18 years ago and relied heavily on RS books to gain that special insider info- his current books are missing his personal experience accounts. Boring stats and data rather than great insider (like a local) scoop! Bummer/ I guess he’s retired
My wife and I are currently on a 3 week journey through Croatia and Slovenia largely following Rick Steves’ recommendations in his updated guide book. His approach to travel allows for getting the most of your time, visiting key spots, avoiding the tourist masses (as much as possible), and getting the best bang for your buck!
Terrific amount of information on getting around, what to see and how to see it.
We very recently took a 2+ week trip to Slovenia and Croatia with a side trip to Montenegro. Rick Steves book was an amazing resource for our group (5 couples). We also appreciated the discussion of the history of the region. Most folks zero in on Croatia, but don’t overlook what Slovenia has to offer.
we have read the book and will use it to plan our trip, great book with lots of pictures.
I’ve read several of the Rick Steve’s travel guides and this is just as good as the others. He gives a great overview of each town with places to eat and stay.
