In many respects this book is an amalgamation of the author's previous work, especially "Assessment and Control of Software Risks" (1994) and "Software Productivity and Quality Today: The Worldwide Perspective" (1993).First, don't be misled by the work "Patterns" in the title - this book is not structured in a design patterns format that has emerged as a popular standard. Instead it's an analysis and findings from an extensive collection of software project metrics from large projects (half million lines of code and greater) that were either successful or failed.The descriptions of the projects, how the analyses were performed and the findings are, in my experience, still valid today as they were when this book was written. More importantly, they serve as a set of guidelines for critical success factors, which can be derived from the twelve attributes that Jones culls from the study: effective project planning, effective project cost estimating, effective project measurements, effective project milestone tracking, effective project quality control, effective project change management, effective development processes, effective communications, capable project managers, capable technical personnel, significant use of specialists, substantial volumes of reusable material.Not surprising, the major pitfalls in the projects that failed were caused by poor management and leadership. In fact, this book states what to many of us are truisms, but backs them up with ample statistics and excellent research. In my opinion every software project manager should be required to read this book before being turned loose on a major project.

I was so excited when I saw that The Fever Code was out. My kids and I are huge fans of the Maze Runner Series (they are ages 14 and 12 now), that we all couldn't wait to read it. I am the faster reader, so I read it first. This is a great addition to the Maze Runner Series. I felt that the series was not complete, unanswered questions, so I was hoping that this book would help fill in the gaps. I can honestly say that this book was amazing. I couldn't put it down, the book flows very quickly. If you have read the Maze Runner Series, then you will want to read the Fever Code also. For instance, if you were like me, and wondered how Thomas reacted differently to those in the maze (friends right away with Chuck, but didn't get along with Gally), then The Fever Code will fill in those missing links. It is a great addition to the series, and for me, it made the series complete. Love this series!Spoiler Alert: The book starts off with the story of Newt, and how he was taken to the maze, even though he was not immune to the flare. The next chapter, and from then on, focuses on Thomas's story and point of view. I wish that there would have been more stories of they other boys, like Alby, Minho, and Chuck. I think this would have added to the book. I did notice was discrepancy in this book, compared to the first book. In the Fever Code, it listed 40 members going to the maze at once, including Alby, Minho, and Newt, but this is not the same as mentioned in the original Maze Runner. I was disappointed about this, but it might not be that noticeable for others. I will discuss it with my kids, after they finish reading the book, to see if they noticed any discrepancies themselves, or if I'm making a big deal out of something small. This book helps show Thomas's personality, which helps to develop him into the leader that he shows in the other books. I have to admit, the ending caught me off guard. I was a huge fan of Teresa, always rooting for her, in the other books. After reading this ending, I was very disappointed in her.

This is the last book in the series-book five. In order for the book to make sense, the trilogy has to be read and then The Kill Order before The Fever Code. This book explains so much, is suspenseful, and has a huge twist. This was the best book I ever read and finished it in two days. Once done with The Maze Runner series, I recommend checking out the two other series by James Dashner. The one I'm reading now is called The Eye of Minds. Another series he wrote starts with the book The 13th Reality. Happy reading!

This was such a great read; satisfying and fun. I finished it all in one sitting and is the perfect bridge between the first prequel and the first book: The Maze Runner. I enjoyed the twists and turns and plot development so much... it's made me want to go back and start at the chronological beginning to get the complete picture (I finished all of the other books years ago).

This is a great conclusion to the series. It answers so many questions. Must read for fans of the Maze Runner!

The Fever Code by James DashnerWow, just a horribly tragic story. Terrifically told, this additional prequel to the Maze Runner series is compelling. I have not read the series previously, so I am looking forward to getting into the Maze itself. I have not been able to unravel all of the lies and misdirections, so I only hope that Dashner has done it for me. I enjoyed this very much.

James Dashner is SUCH a wonderful author. There have been many times a prequel has fallen short of my expectations- they tend to be less interesting and more "telling than showing" in nature. However, this was amazing. Dashner could have easily made this the first book in the series (rather than a prequel) and maintained his following for the rest of the series. It was exciting, answered quite a few questions, and you just learn so much about the process of the Maze being created and where exactly Thomas and Teresa's heads were at throughout the whole process. There's just soooo much you learn about all these characters and seeing the beginning of the maze from another perspective is amazing. Overall, I totally enjoyed it and would highly recommend!

I definitely recommend reading this book AFTER the rest of the series. It will spoil some things if you read it as a prequel. As soon as I picked up the series, I was hooked. It's a very nice read that wasn't too easy or confusing to follow. This book tied loose ends, and it was nice reading it afterwards to look back and be like "Oh! That did happen!". I would start with Kill Order and work your way through the series, ending with this book.

The first 3 Maze Runners were amazing, but the 4th and 5th books were dreadful. There were times where i had no idea what was going on in the book. I found myself struggling to attempt to finish chapters and at times i had to reread parts. I dont even fully get what the story was supposed to be about! Sad compared to his first few books, it seems like this one was written just to make the extra buck.

This review applies to all the books in the series. My son started reading these shortly after he started getting good at reading chapter books. I would say they are on par with the Magic Treehouse series. However, I the drawings are very good, and every page has artwork, and so it's easy for him to get into the stories. Each book could be read independently, but I think it's better to read them in order. He started reading these at 5 years old in Kindergarten, but I think they're better suited to first graders. Every time we get a new edition, he devours it immediately. There are very few book series out there that he enjoys as much as these. Kingdom of Wrenly is similar, but he like this much more. I wish they'd sell these in a boxed set! This is also our go-to book for kids birthdays once we hear that they're getting into chapter books.

I was looking for something to read to my 7 year old daughter and 3 year old son. I wanted something gender neutral (I wanted to avoid Princess books). This book was great. This is the Fourth book in Dragon Masters Series. It has easy to follow storyline, so even if you skip the first, second and third book and start with this one, you (or your kids) will be able to follow the story, but I recommend starting with the first book because it does refer to what happened in the book 1, 2 and 3.My kids loved the series and asked to read more than 3 chapters a night. This is one of the Scholastic Branches series books. Branches series were written for early chapter book readers. There are two levels: first level is with color pictures and lower Lexile (According to Scholastic website, for ages 5-7, 80 page full color Branches series are: Boris by Andrew Joyner, Kung Pow Chicken by Cindi Marko, Missy's Super Duper Royal Deluxe by Susan Nees, Owl Diaries by Rebecca Elliott, Princess Pink and the Land of Fake-Believe by Noah Z Jones), second level is black and white with a bit higher Lexile (according to Scholastic Website, for ages 6-8, 96 page, black and white Branches series are: The amazing stardust friends by Heather Alexander Illustrated by Diane Le Feyer, Dragon Masters by Tracy West Illustrated by Graham Howells, Eerie Elementary by Jack Chabert Illustrated by Sam Ricks, Looniverse by David Lubar Illustrated by Matt Loveridge, Lotus Lane by Kyla May, Monkey Me by Timothy Roland, and the Notebook of Doom by Troy Cummings) . This Dragon Master series falls onto the second level. My daughter enjoyed Eerie Elementary series (took 45-60 min to read per book) and The Notebook of Doom (took 45-60 min to read per book). Branches series have easy to follow story lines and attractive illustrations (black and white for second level) and I highly recommend them.This is the last of the series (as of the date of the review Sept 2015), but how the story ended makes it seem like more books are coming. My daughter cannot wait and she said "if this is the last one that author has written, I should write the book #5" - this is how much my daughter liked this series.

I ordered this book for my 8 year old daughter as she as read all 3 other books in the series and could not wait for the forth book to come out. She absolutely loves the story, characters and adventure. Upon receiving the book she sat down and read through the entire book in one sitting! Needless to say she is hooked and I am so happy that my daughter loves reading because of these books! Can't wait for more in the series and I hope it continues for a long time!

I bought a bunch of these books for my daughters birthday. I know she loves them because she’s gotten them from the library and has read them before. I give it 4 stars because I was disappointed that they came in an envelope instead of a box. Since these are paperbacks some of them did get slightly bent.

My 7 yo's least favorite in the series but she said the 1st chapter was hilarious. She felt the 5 chapters of battle went on too long and that the characters seemed robotic compared to how they were in the other books. Good enough that she has huge feels about this.

My 4 year old is obsessed with the Dragon Masters series. We read a few chapters from one of the books every day. It is perfect because she is getting a longer attention span but still needs a book with lots of pictures and short chapters. The climactic parts have drama and tension but aren't overly scary. The stories about different dragons and kids from different parts of the world capture her imagination like nothing I have ever seen. This is an incredible series that I also enjoy reading with her, and I hope Tracy West continues to write many many more!

My 7 year old son & I LOVE this series!! He reads independently, but we like to read this together before bed. The stories are suspenseful and captivating. My son is not particularly into dragons, so I wasn't sure if he would enjoy the first one, but he's hooked! We've read 1-7 and awaiting #8 to be released in the Fall. :)

My 6 and 8 year old grandsons love listening to me read this series to them. The older one follows along and if The miss a word he corrects me, yet he does not really want to read them to himself. Perhaps he felt it was too scary to read alone, although he would never admit to that. I think this series has a good balance of adventure and the values of friendship and teamwork in it. The kids want to know if there will be more of these books.

The British Army's XXX Corps has generally taken a beating from World War II historians for its failure to reach Arnhem in time to rescue the British First Airborne Division. Operation Market-Garden has thus been famously "a bridge too far". The truth may be a bit more subtle, as historian Ken Ford suggests in this third volume of his Osprey Campaign Series on the operation.Operation Market Garden was supposed to restore the momentum of the British 21st Army Group attack across the Netherlands and into Germany. There was pressure, and an opportunity, to use the Allied Airborne Army. The XXX Corps had crossed the Albert Canal and was positioned to follow up. What was less apparent to Allied planners were Germany's frantic efforts to thicken up the battlefield in front of XXX Corps, pulling in fledgling units from Germany and retrieving bypassed units from Belgium. Attacking up a very narrow corridor to the Rhine River was going to be tougher than anticipated...Ken Ford does an excellent job laying out the opposing sides, their commanders, their forces, and their plans. His highly readable narrative spells out what went right and wrong on the ground, nicely supported by maps, battle diagrams, illustrations, and period photographs. Very highly recommended as a concise account of the Operation, to be read in conjunction with the first two volumes, covering the Airborne operations.

After three years in the making, Osprey has completed another excellent Campaign "series". This is a winning "proof-of-concept" for the publisher. Caught in a trap of their own making - specific, hard page limits for different series (e.g.; all Men-at-arms series must be 48 pgs). - they were subject to appropriate criticism for giving campaign topics very brief coverage. By splitting up Operation Market-Garden into three neat and seperate titles they gave good coverage to this perennially favored WWII topic.Ken Ford's volume on the British ground offensive is surprisingly satisfying. He strikes a good balance between command insights, operational analysis and tactical details. Even given the "expanded" campaign format, all the minutiae that some readers will lust after can't be included. For example, only brief biographic sketches of the leading commanders are provided. That is ameliorated somewhat by similar, but supplemental, sketches of other officers in the two companion volumes on airborne operations. The maps are good, with no evidence of the previous shortcomings in Osprey map graphics from a few years back. The photos are also of interest, and in this volume there are none of the too-often-seen photos that get published in every book on Market-Garden. The prose is also remarkably good, and clear. Sadly this is something that Osprey has struggled with in recent years, publishing some real "head scratchers" that were barely readable (e.g.; for some reason the American War of 1812 appears to be a magnet for bad writers ). This time the Editor gets to keep his job, perhaps even getting a Bonus!

Again Volume 5 is a Del Rey published book. I'm thankful they picked up the series, but the work they did could have been better. Some of the dialogue for some pages get cut off, mainly due to either wordy translations or not enough page space.In Volume 5, Akito/Agito enrolls in Ikki's school after the whole ordeal in Volume 4 and decides to ride with him in the team he will be creating. Ikki creates the (legendary to-be) Storm Rider team, Kogarasumaru, and includes members Akito/Agito, Kazu, Buccha, and Onigiri. Team Kogarasumaru also have their 'debut' match against Sabel tiger, the first of many official matches to reach the Trophaeum.

I just finished reading volumes 1 - 3 and absolutely love the story. The battles are intriguing and the art style is truly captivating. Also, the main character, Ikki, is awesome, he isn't like most main characters which are generally weak and puny, he fights for what he believes in which is another unique aspect this manga has, a strong lead character. In my opinion, volume 3 of this book was the best. Ikki's battle vs Buccha gave me a strong urge to continue reading because it left me wondering how the main character could possibly win. I'll definitely invest more time and money into the series, as of right now I can see this becoming my favorite.

I absolutely loved the Air Gear anime, and I was so sad that it ended way before the story came to a close. The manga makes the characters much more lovable, especially Ringo. I love the artwork, and the story is already noticeably different from the anime. I now have to consider purchasing the rest of the series, but I may have to go with the omnibus versions to cut the cost down.

I finally got to collecting the volumes of one of my favorite series, starting off with Volume 3 (buying cheapest, best condition ones first). First, I must say, I sure am glad Kodansha picked up the series from Volume 18 onwards. Del Rey, unfortunately, was doing a pretty bad printing job. The dialogue from some of the characters on various pages throughout the volume, get cut off, due to insufficient space.Volume 3 is mainly about Ikki vs Buccha, after Buccha beats up Ikki's friends Kazu and Onigiri. The winner of the "parts war" will dominate the school.

Volume 22 practically has to do with the commencement of the Gram Scale Tournament. Unfortunately for Team Kogarasumaru, Ikki forgets to submit the application. Prior to the commencement, it features a pretty action packed duel, between Ikki and Kazu, due to Kazu losing confidence and straying off their path. Excellent series.

Its AIRGEAR......Not much else needs to be said. I have been enjoying these Manga for over a year now and I am on Volume 20 right now after having finally purchased 15/16/17 not to long ago. The art is wonderful and the story is funny and it has a lot of adventure in it. Good read and enjoyable in my opinion.
