The Wheel of Time and I have an interesting relationship. Almost all of the characters totally infuriate me but I love the writing, cultures, world building and overall plots so even when in this book everything moves at a snail’s pace and almost nothing really happens plot wise I’m still thoroughly entertained and enjoy most of the story.But here is what I’ve learned during my time with the Wheel.❶ - The Wheel Weaves as the Wheel Wills.What does this mean exactly? Well it pretty much means that at any time anything can happen. Especially with Ta’veren about to increase the chances that the pattern will adjust to their needs at anytime.***“Untamed men are often the most interesting. To talk to.”A finger outlined his lips. “An untamed rogue who travels with Aes Sedai, a ta’veren who, I think, makes them a little afraid. Uneasy, at the least. It takes a man with a strong liver to make Aes Sedai uneasy. How will you bend the Pattern in Ebou Dar, just Mat Cauthon?”***❷ - There will be a prophecy or five and it will probably not go exactly how you think.***“The White Tower will be whole again, except for remnants cast out and scorned,whole and stronger than ever. Rand al’Thor will face the Amyrlin Seat and know her anger. The Black Tower will be rent in blood and fire, and sisters will walk its grounds. This I Foretell.”***Although most of this one could go like I think, the part about the Black Tower is still very up in the air.❸ - If you are from the Two Rivers then you are more likely to distrust the people you grew up with and completely trust someone who is most likely a darkfriend. Seriously this is that part that frustrates me the most. Rand, Mat and Perrin were best of friends growing up. Thick as thieves all of their lives. Now each is Ta’vern and has a specific part to play in the final battles to come and they are more likely to distrust each other than to try to help each other out. Actually often times when they do help each other it is by complete accident. And the women they grew up with Egwene and Nynaeve it is the same issue. You would almost think they were enemies the way they all treat one another instead of people who were close in a small village and grew up together.But throw a darkfriend or Forsaken in the midst of them and that is almost always the person they decide to trust with a ridiculous amount of information and power.❹ - If you can channel the one power then you lose some form of common sense. I seriously think that there is only a small section of Aes Sedai that I like. For the most part they seem far too arrogant and self-serving to actually get anything done. Even the ones I do/did like tend to go to extremes and I really want to smack them.***Mixing with Aes Sedai was too much like wading the streams in the Waterwood near to the Mire. However peaceful the surface, currents beneath could snatch you off your feet.***❺ - The details for the cultures and places is going to be fantastic and rich. You will definitely see not only the great differences but also the nuances between the Aiel, Domani, the Sea Folk and Seanchan. There are rich histories and reasons that each culture evolved as it did. This is really Jordan’s strong suit. He completely struggles a little with interpersonal relationships but the world building is impeccable.Even though this book barely moved any portion of the plot forward I still enjoyed most of it. There were a lot of great parts and fantastic characters. I did have a huge problem with one section thought and I’m totally going to go off on it for a second.As I said before, Jordan struggles with interpersonal relationships. Often for our main characters the jump from just meeting to being in love is really short and has very little page time dedicated to the buildup of an actual relationship. But in this book he really missed his mark with the character development he was trying to give Mat.What I believe Jordan was trying to do. Mat is a bit of a skirt chaser but we always get the sense that the skirts want to be chased and everyone is having a good time. But when Jordan tried to turn the tables on Mat and have a woman in power go after his attentions it is supposed to come off as a little funny and haha Mat how does it feel to have the tables turned. This is needed to set him up to be more receptive to the Daughter of the Nine Moons who he was prophesized to marry eventually. It was supposed to be cute and maybe a little funny What actually happened or at least how I saw it was totally and completely rape. Look I get that isn’t what he really wanted to come across but that is totally how I saw it. The Queen Tylin takes a liking to Mat and decides he is going to be her lover. She tries to get him alone, she limits what the kitchens will give him as food, she ambushes him in his rooms and when he tries to turn he down and move her away setting his hands on her she pulls her knife and there is a fade to black scene. The next day Mat is ashamed, wants to cry and doesn’t want anyone else to know. There is no mention that he loved it and wants to be with her. He acts like he was a victim and tries to avoid her at all costs.It was very poorly portrayed and if it was the man on the other end it would definitely totally be rape without question.If I didn’t think that it was totally not his intention to portray it in a comical sense I might have given up right there. Especially after how Elayne and Nynaeve treat the situation. But I’ll give Jordan a pass since all of the romantic entanglements have been handled almost as equally poorly.Best New Friendship Award - Goes to Mat and Birgetta. I love those two on page together. I’m glad Mat has one woman in his life that he likes to hang out with and isn’t interested in kissing.Non-Evil Character I want to push off a Cliff - This still goes to Elayne. The haughty daughter heir still drives me a bit crazy. She is a bit better with Avienda around to teach her Toh but I still don’t like her.OverallI’m still in it to win it and I was warned there would be a few slower books so I am prepared for them. Even though my review is a bit critical I really do like most of the characters when they are not being stupid to one another and like the intensity of the bad guys and the overall march to kill the dark one eventually. The Cultures, Magic and Mayhem make this series.

I very much enjoy serial stories. This one is mammoth! I think the author has moved a little slowly, but mostly, the reason I like it vs. loving it, is that I think he's been a little sloppy with the female characters. The story definitely wraps around the female characters; their persistence at not learning from their mistakes, their haughty and self-absorbed characters, and their very high self-beliefs make them tiring to read about. The central male characters aren't much better either.The author manages to introduce a new obstacle, or new magic, or new opponent in every book. The story is very well thought out and very well devised. I'm enjoying that aspect very much. I just hope his character development improves, cause it's a long road to go without that. It's almost like the focus is on the story with limited attention paid to character development. So. Having said all that, I'm still hooked and have gone on to the 8th book, which is really the 9th book because there was a prequel written that is numbered "0".

I'm sure Robert Jordan wasn't trying to be misogynistic when he wrote the Wheel of Time series. Indeed, he probably thought he was very forward thinking - after all, there are as many important female characters as there are males. But book 7 is a prime example of just how painful his character writing was.All of the women are very similar (because he based all the female characters on his wife), and all the male characters are also very similar (because he based them all on himself). This is true throughout the series, but it's especially noticeable in this volume. The women all feel that all men are idiots and need to be led by the nose for their own good. The men all feel that all women are manipulative and scheming (and they all are). None of the women knows how to show a modicum of respect to anybody. Attempts at respect come out as simpering and sniveling.And let's not forget that this book plays RAPE off for a laugh. Matrim Cauthin is being bedded against his will by the queen of Ebou Dar, and when he finally finds the courage to tell Elayne about it, she LAUGHS AT HIM, and says it's a taste of his own medicine (oh really? you think he's a rapist too?). Mat also spends the whole act complaining about how "This is a girl's place, not a man's" - because apparently being raped every night is only for "girls". The whole subplot is DISGUSTING and was not handled with the care and sensitivity that it should have been.I am still forcing myself to read the whole series because the world building is excellent, and the story is interesting. I just hate 99% of the characters, and spend most of my time yelling at them as I read (or listen to the audiobook). Most of Jordan's characters are pretty horrible people, with few redeeming factors (if any).

But after seeing her, he's drawn to her and even feels protective and looks forward to their nightly talks. However, when he realizes that he's not the only one watching her, Ryker knows his time is up. He has to move her. He also needs to tell Cori what she is. But the more time Ryker spends with her, the deeper his attraction. No matter what, he has to stay focused on avenging his family. Even if it means destroying the woman he's fallen in love with. The woman that is his wolf's mate.Loved it. Ryker is wow. The chemistry between he and Cori flies off the page. The story just sucks you in and you can feel Ryker and Cori falling more and more for the other. Cori is a strong female character. She's not a whiney chick who annoys you every time she speaks. Cori is confident and knows what she wants. Ryker.Primal Instinct is told in both Ryker's and Cori's POVs. It's a standalone but part of a series where the story as a whole progresses. I'm looking forward to what's up next.

What he didn't know when he made his plan to use her as a pawn was that she was his mate.Ryker moves in next door to Corinne and befriends her over their back fence. Corinne has the ability to tell if someone is telling the truth by listening to their words and has found that she is drawn to her neighbor even though she has never actually seen him in person. Ryker can feel that someone else is watching Corinne also and knows he needs to get her away before whoever it is makes their move, so he lets himself into her apartment and just as things are heating up between the two of them they are interrupted by an intruder breaking down her door.Things get a little rocky between Ryker and Corinne when she over hears the truth as to why Ryker wanted to get close to her in the first place, but the instinct of ones mate assists Ryker explain to Corinne that she isn't just a pawn for him to get to her father. Corinne's father has not been a hands on father and Corinne doesn't want to believe that he could be thee murder that killed Ryker's sister and nephews.....but it doesn't take long for her see her father for what he truly is. Can she save Ryker, her mate, from the death sentence her father has set in motion?The story has plenty of action and is a great read. I look forward to reading the next book in the Pendragon Gargoyles series.

This book is a paranormal romance. It involves gargoyles, which are shape shifters from King Arthur's Avalon. They vary from Wolves to Dragons to Panthers. Are you following me? It is a very out there idea and when mixed with Arthurian legend it can get a little convoluted. Even so, I found myself enjoying it very much, when after the very beginning I ddin't think I would.It's not the kind of book that you obsess over every detail nor is it very literary, but it isn't meant to be! It is a fun, sexy ride, which, I believe It was meant to be. An especially good Spring or Summer read. Take it to the beach or poolside! I thought the characters were likable, the settings interesting and the romance steamy. I also enjoyed the perspective switch throughtout the book between the two leads.I would have liked to get a little more backstory on many of the side characters and what is happening in Avalon. I know this is a set up for a series, but a little more to get you going would have been nice. That said, I am sure the next books will get that all covered.I would recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance, shifters or someone looking for a easy, quick read.

Really nice, reminded me of Sherilyn Kennyon and her Dark Hunter series. Avalon is real, separated from the moral realm by a magic mist. Once Morgana killed Arthur, his loyal servants have fled Avalon - they are gargoyles (stone by day and dual magical creatures by night: human-panther, human- werewolf, human-dragon, etc). Everybody (good and bad) is searching for Arthur's sword, a most powerful magic object. Ryker is a werewolf seeking to avenge the death of his sister and nephews. His only lead in 50 years to her killer is Corrine, who has these strange panic attacks that prevent her from having a normal life. But they are not meant to be enemies. I enjoyed it.

If you're using this book, it's probably for a class. The MS Access portion of this book is good for instruction, terrible for assignments. They'll have you do a task that isn't described in the book.The MS Excel portion is not that way, it is very straightforward.Considering how Access is very niche of a portion of MS office, I really wanted to learn it, but the book made it unnecessarily difficult.

This book looks like it was punished and then thrown into the washing machine. I mean I guess you get what you pay for since it was only like 13 bucks but I cannot say I am happy with its ccondition, I'll be embarrased to bring it to class with me

Glad I read it, I have enjoyed just about everything that Patrick D. Smith has written. I may have to reread it. Finding a true Floridian is almost an impossible task.

I had read one of this author's stories and really enjoyed it. I thought this was a story about Florida Crackers and I bought it for a small sum.When it downloaded on my kindle I found out that it was only answering the question of the same name as the book...What is a Florida Cracker...it tells you in a couple of paragraphs and that is it. I would not recommend ordering this book...

Love his books

I am disappointed in this purchase as I thought I was purchasing a book.....It turned out to be the writers thoughts on what a Florida cracker is. Took less than five minutes to read. Cost $2.99. This writers other books have been great and well worth what they cost.

After taking an introductory tapestry weaving class last winter, I was looking for additional resources for inspiration and instruction. I have been an admirer of Maryanne Moodie's tapestry work for a while, and when I learned she was publishing this book last March, I immediately preordered it and anxiously awaited its arrival. I received the book today and was so disappointed to find it is not a comprehensive manual of Maryanne Moodie style tapestry weaving, but rather a how-to book of the kinds of crafts you see on Pinterest or that kids make at summer camp - like a floppy basket made from strips of blue jeans, a yarn-wrapped lamp shade, a "festival hair tapestry", a yarn-decorated bicycle basket, a tote bags made from a store-bought rug, and a gods-eye updated with fringe, to name a few. If you are looking for some projects to entertain an 8 year old on a rainy day, this book may work for you. If you are looking for inspiration and techniques for creating beautiful modern tapestries, I'd look elsewhere. I agree with another reviewer that "Beyond Craft: The Art Fabric," by Mildred Constantine and Jack Lenor Larsen is excellent for inspiration. I also recommend "DIY Woven Art" by Rachel Denbow for both inspiration and for detailed and easy to understand tutorials on various stitches and techniques - this book is basically everything I expected On the Loom to be.

I like Moodie's work. Unfortunately, the book falls short. I returned it because I did not find a single project that I consider attractive or useful.I agree with design lover; Rachel Denbow's book on DIY Weaving delivers exactly what I expected from Moodie's book.

I was so excited to receive this book. I preordered it and was counting down the days for when it would come in the mail. I even waited until I could devote my full and undivided attention to poring over the sumptuous pictures of creatively woven wall hangings. To say, I was underwhelmed is an understatement. I am a beginner weaver and I realize there is an importance of Maryanne fully explaining color theory and the various stitches of basic weaving. But, her tutorials and items she chose to highlight fell completely short for me. I follow her (and have for some time) on instagram and her website. She does incredibly modern things with weaving and has truly elevated this craft to a full art form. I was hoping that she would explain some of her techniques for her truly modern and avant-garde uses of fiber and the loom. While she did touch upon circular looms and looms using natural objects, she did not give any insight in how she played around with pattern and fiber to do some of her truly wonderful works. I understand that she may not want to give all her "secrets" away, but I just didn't think she went far enough in discussing how she lays out her patterns and work prior to weaving and how she incorporates three dimensional objects into her weavings. I know this is not a true secret because other weavers doing similar things have done this in their books. She does incredible work. Her weavings are fresh and dreamy and just altogether fantastic. I wish her book would have inspired me to attempt some of her more unusual patterns or weavings. But, it didn't. It's not a terrible book but like I said, it just fell short. Maybe I expected more from her because I know what she can do. And, I figured she would let us in on how she took this art form and truly made it her own so that we, in turn, could make it our own. I hope she does another book and expands more upon weaving, pattern, stitches, and color.

I was so excited to get this book but was very disappointed upon opening it. Maryanne Moodie has such a large following because of her beautiful work - I started weaving after seeing her work and have spent way too much time looking at her instagram for inspiration - but almost everything featured in the book has nothing to do with her own work.. I found that confusing and felt a bit cheated. My expectation was that I'd get a book about her work and I got.. a random assortment of weaving-related crafts? I can easily find the instructions portion of this book online, so I was hoping to hear from her about her thought process when weaving, the more complex weaving techniques, the way she creates negative space, where she gets yarn & how she organizes her space, creating your own voice and 'style' -- an insider view into her process, inspiration, dreams, etc. The book itself is beautifully made and some of the projects are interesting, but overall I was disappointed. Adore Maryane Moddie and her work - but don't love this book.

I have been a fan of Maryanne Moodie's wall hangings for two years now, and was so excited when she announced she was releasing a book! I preordered it immediately and was pumped then day it came home. Sadly, after examining every page and project, I decided to return it as it really had very little to do with making wall hangings, and even less to do with her stylistic approach. If her name and her forward weren't in the book, you'd never know it was written by her. The projects are hokey, and do seem like they are from a children's craft book. The photos in which she teaches you to weave are so small that you'd be better served going to free internet tutorials like the one at the website "Honestly WTF". The name " On the Loom" and cover photo are very misleading, so this book would benefit from a renaming and rebranding.

A more accurate title for this book would be "Crafting with Fibers". The loom-based instruction is minimal at best and doesn't cover even some of the bare bones of tapestry weaving such as hemstitching. There are some interesting fiber crafts (such as making a teepee with ribbon) presented but they are the most very basic in nature and most of the instructions are text-based. If you are looking for a book on modern tapestry weaving, complete with step-by-step photo-based instructions, I would recommend "DIY Woven Art" by Rachel Denbow.
